Mayor Price Boney Sr., Mayor Jeff Owyoung and Desha County Judge Richard Tindall are working together to give the county a stronger dispatch center. The 911 system and the dispatch center are the heart and sole of first responders anywhere.
If the correct information is not collected from the person calling then passed on to the ambulance response team, or fire department or law enforcement officer the final outcome could be a disaster. The new dispatch center will have a higher level of professionalism and the offices working together will make Desha County's law enforcement agencies formidable.
This process began more than a year ago when Judge Tindall started working with the State Police and the Arkansas 911 Board to secure the Southeast Arkansas Law Enforcement Commission building for this purpose. When that was done the Judge appointed the Desha County Sheriff Mitch Grant, Dumas Police Chief Keith Finch McGehee Police Chief David Williams, Desha County OEM Ricky Terry and the Dumas Volunteer Fire Department Chief Doug Weatherford to the SEALIC 911 board.
They began making a plan to implement a new dispatch center. All 3 entities will work together to finance the operation of the new center with the three governments budgeting $100,000 each and the Arkansas 911 Board helping with salaries, and remodeling. AT&T has committed to install dispatch equipment.
Other counties have called to learn more about how Desha County organized their new system and other State Agencies are complimenting Desha County on our
ingenuity.
Working "Together" to Make Desha County better.
