After more than three decades in law enforcement, Desha County Sheriff Larry Allen has announced he will retire at the end of the year and not seek re-election to another term. Allen said serving as Sheriff has been his "deepest honor" and his decision was not an easy one.
"After much prayer and careful consideration, I've decided I will not seek re-election at the completion of this term," said Sheriff Allen. "I am excited to earn the opportunity to retire and start the next chapter in my life."
"First and foremost, I want to thank my family for their unwavering love and support, for standing by my side, and for enduring everything associated with a life in law enforcement. I thank everyone who has worked alongside me and the department in an effort to serve and protect the communities within Desha County. And last, but not least, I thank the citizens of Desha County for putting your trust and confidence in me as your Sheriff," Allen added.
"I attribute much of my success to those who came before me; sharing insight, offering opportunity, and giving encouragement toward my knowledge and growth. Now I feel that it is time to step aside and allow the Desha County Sheriff's Department to be led by a new sheriff," said Allen. "I thank God for protecting me throughout my law enforcement career and I will continue to pray for the safety of our law enforcement in Desha County and across the nation."
