Important decisions were made during the monthly Delta Memorial Hospital Auxiliary meeting. The meeting was held Thursday, October 20 at the Dumas Community Center.
Chairperson Debra Hawkins called the meeting to order at approximately 11:30 AM. Patty Posey arranged tables "adorned in pink" for the "Ladies in Pink" in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Hawkins reminded attendees of DMH auxilians who were suffering from illness or personal loss before she presented members from the hospital staff to discuss services provided by the hospital's "Swing Bed Program." This program gives transitional care for patients who need additional help when they have been released from the hospital to go home. Presenters of the program included Dana Miles, the chief Nursing officer; Cooper Lewis, a physical therapist; and
Heather King of the hospital staff. In addition to the physical therapist, the program also offers professional care by a speech therapist and an occupational therapist. Interested persons are invited to visit the hospital Facebook page for more information.
Miles informed the group of proposed hospital marketing items, which will include magnets, ink pens, and hand sanitizers - all of which will contain the hospital logo. Following the presentations, auxilians voted unanimously to donate the total amount of $841.75 to pay for the marketing products.
After reports by Secretary Clarice Poole and Treasurer Jeri Brewer were approved, auxilians voted to pay $2,435.00 for lighting in the hospital parking lot and an additional $4,739.00 for lighting in the emergency area of the hospital.
The annual Christmas cards were distributed for members to sell in order to finance scholarships for nursing students.
Another essential item on the agenda was the selection of Lorra Kelley to head the Pre - Thanksgiving Bake sale. Kelley sought the oversight of Juanita Dodds, who had spearheaded the bake sale in previous years. Members were asked to commit to baking items to be sold the Tuesday before Thanksgiving Day at the hospital.
Thelma Anderson and Karen Plante of Pine, Arizona, were praised for their amazingly beautiful donation of handmade crochet throws and patchwork squares. These items will be used to enhance gifts the auxiliary gives for new born babies. Evelyn Murphy agreed to write and mail thank-you letters to the Arizona contributors.
What was a very productive meeting ended by attendees taking home fresh green salads provided by the hospital.
