Most of the time in high school football, teams with a lot of seniors win the majority of the time.
Not to say, those senior led teams can't be beaten, because they can, anyone can be beaten on any given Friday night in high school, college or pro football.
Yes we do have 11 seniors on our roster, however the Bobcat players are still learning a new program, new terminology, a new system. The Bobcats are improving each week regardless of what the scoreboard says. We all want to win all the time. The kids, coaches and fans want to win every game we play. Reality is, that's not going to happen. But the Bobcats will continue to get better.
Last Friday our Bobcats were simply overwhelmed by a very good Eagle football team, lead by a very good senior quarterback with a program that has been in place for a while.
Our day will come.
Given the time Dumas Head Coach Antonio Lovelady and his staff will get Coach Lovelady's program installed and most importantly for the off season. The off season, the practice field, the weight room is where the games are won. Preparation before the season begins is vital to success.
Our underclassmen will get better every day, every week and each year and if they stay together, and work hard every day, every week, every moment they can become force in Arkansas High School football. I believe in Coach Lovelady. He knows the formula that leads to success.
At Crossett the Bobcats were still playing, fighting at the end.
“Yes, that's a positive,” said Coach Lovelady. “The kids fought till the end. I didn't see any quit in them. Just inexperience and depth caught up with us against a senior led Crossett Eagles team.”
“I told the kids, we're going to be on the other end of that one day soon,” said Coach. “Just keep fighting, working hard, keep showing up everyday and we're going to get this thing turned around.”
Next up, the Warren Lumberjacks.
“Warren is up next,” said Coach. “It doesn't get any easier. Warren is pretty good. They are a good team. He has a system in place and they kind of just reload every year. But, we're up for the challenge its just part of it you know.”
“I told the coaching staff when we were watching the film, they're not world beaters,” said Coach. “They are good now, with a system in place that's going to allow them to do things, but hey, anybody can be beaten.”
The Bobcats generated 175 yards of total offense, 112 yards passing with 63 yards rushing.
The Eagles cranked out 575 yards of total offense, 326 yards passing with 249 yards rushing.
Dumas sophomore quarterback Joseph Jones completed eight of 17 pass attempts with one touchdown and one interception.
Senior Orlandrick Tatum rushed for 50 yards on 17 carries and scored one touchdown, while sophomore Jaylon Jordan gained 13 yards on two carries.
Senior Derrick Lee caught four passes for 62 yards and scored one touchdown, while sophomore Jaylyne Jones caught three passes for 19 yards.
Junior Guillermo Petty caught three passes for 66 yards, while senior Kavion Beavers caught one pass for 11 yards.
Junior Ethan Cruce recorded nine tackles, while Jaylon Jordan made five tackles.
Kavion Beavers made two tackles with one sack and one pass deflection, while senior River Patton made four tackles.
The Warren Lumberjacks come into Dumas at 4-1 on the season having defeated Star City 40-15 last week.
