Dumas Mayor Flora Simon stated the purpose of the Open-Floor public hearing was to discuss the Dumas-Winchester Sewer Project at a Specil Called Public Meeting Monday, June 28, 2021.
Danny Hernandez and Adam Triche of McClelland Consultant Engineers, Inc., spoke about the project plans and environmental study. The meeting was then opened for anyone present to be able to present comments, suggestions, or objections to the Sewer Project.
Discussions included pumping sewer to manholes, sludge removal, 137 poles taken to see if any remnant were found such as native American artifacts and so forth, easements needed for utilities and the procurement process, environmental checklist procedures, funding for the project, the water line to be connected to get sewer to all residents and businesses involved.
The Dumas-Winchester Sewer Project could take up to one year to complete.
Mr. Frederick Black asked Mr. Triche if Pickens could connect their sewer line to Dumas in the future? Council Members responded yes to Mr. Black, but the future connection would be at the expense of Pickens, Arkansas. Mr. Triche stated he would research properties, land and owners of the land for Pickens.

Those present for the Special Hearing included: Mayor, Flora Simon, Council Members Roy Dalton, John Owen, Jared May, Diane Fisher, Romona Weatherford, Kenneth Daniels, Franklin Healey and Norma Eldridge as recorder.
