In its Tuesday night session, Desha-Drew School Board approved the establishment of a kindergarten program, a first for the school district in Tillar. Superintendent Opal Crow said that the district will have one full-day regular program with $9,000 funding from the state.
Gould teachers will receive a $650 pay raise for the coming fiscal year, following action by the Gould School Board Monday night.
A tax-free foundation has been suggested as the best way of initiating a museum effort in Dumas, and a name is being sought for the museum.
“A good turnout at the barbecue supper tomorrow will insure that we have a full program at Memorial Park this summer,” Dr. Russell Harris told Dumas Lions Club members Wednesday.
Members of the Pee Wee football squad are asked to register at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sight and Sound Center of John Puryear Hardware here. Clay Oldner, who serves as a Pee Wee Coach, asked all coaches and team members to report at that time. Plans for the fall will be discussed.
Rice growers in six states can, for the present time, transfer rice acreage allotments in areas where natural disaster prevents planting or replanting.
The Dumas area is running 15 inches of rainfall ahead of the normal amount for the year. However, the heavy rains came in the first four months of the year, because the May rainfall was 4.57 inches compared to the May norm of 4.55, Weather Observer Travis Keahey reports.
