JP 9 seat to be filled by Governor appointment

The Desha County Quorum court is sad to announce the passing of Justice of Peace District 9 Norris Sims November 16, 2025.
The Quorum Court gives their condolences to the Sim's family. Mr. Sim's chair will remain vacant until a replacement for JP District 9 is appointed by the governor.

Third-graders’ big year under LEARNS

How many Arkansas third graders struggling in reading will be held back at the end of this school year? Probably more than usual, but not as many as there could be.
Education Secretary Jacob Oliva discussed that question in an appearance before the House and Senate Education Committees Sept. 2.

The Community packed the Delta Health Services parking lot for a family friendly Trunk or Treat October 21, 2025. DMH thanked their employees board members, community partners, and families who helped make this event such a success. “We’re honored to be your community partner in healthcare — and your neighbor in all the fun that makes Dumas so special,” DMH said.
