Agatha Joy (Head) Gasaway went home to be with her Lord on December 19, 2022.
Agatha was born April 7, 1930 in Tensas Parish, LA to Chester Newton Head and Flossie Ruth (Martin) Head.
Agatha was an elementary and Sunday School teacher for many years and was devoted to the children she taught, her family and her church family. She was an avid gardener, cook, seamstress and very active in Eastern Star. Agatha was very happy to read anything she could get her hands on, even if it were a cereal box. This joy of reading she instilled in her children, taking them to the library at an early age, and she contributed to several family and community cookbooks. She loved yellow, especially in flowers, the rose being her favorite. She also loved to travel and, after she retired to Petit Jean Mountain after almost 30 years of teaching at Dumas Central Elementary, Agatha took up quilting as an avocation and in the last few years of her life she made and gifted smaller quilts to all of her nieces, some nephews and others of her friends that she felt were like family. But one of her best accomplishments was how she touched the lives of so many that she taught in school, going the extra mile in some cases that made her extra beloved.
Agatha was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Lonnie Theo Gasaway, her parents, Chester and Flossie; brothers Drexel Head, Chester Newton Head Jr., Jerry and Terry Head and her sister Hattabelle Lee.
Agatha is survived by her daughter, Gwyned Kaye Gasaway, her son, Greg N. Gasaway, both of Petit Jean Mountain near Morrilton, her sister, Lynne Moore, of West Monroe LA, her sister Daphne (Paul) Higginbotham of Mt. View AR and many nieces, nephews and dear friends and church family.
Services were held Thursday December 22, 2022 at 11AM, preceded by visitation at 10, in the chapel at Union Missionary Baptist Church, formerly Bob Neal’s Funeral Home. #5 Bruce Street Morrilton AR.
Burial was in Petit Jean Community Cemetery in Conway County.
