“What Have You Done For Us Lately—Who Will Lead Us 2022 and Beyond?”
Talk is easy (for some), but the actions are the truest testimony of the officials who are elected into office. The upcoming election in Dumas ‘must be’ about a demonstrative record based on vision, promise, and who’s best for ALL OF DUMAS. It’s not about who is black, white, etc., but about what’s wrong and getting it and keeping it right.
There is approximately one month left before persons can successfully file and be a candidate for the position of Dumas Mayor and council member.
This moment and article aims to convey the strength and urgency for Dumas to bring out the best and elect the best.
Since the last mayoral election in 2018, Dumas has experienced the closing of DTEC. A new program model, DAT—C, Digital Arts Technology College Network is underway with the USDA REDI, Rural Economic Development Innovation award. The program is online and continues to engage persons from Dumas and across the state. It has not received any support from the current administration. Minutes from multiple meetings with local and statewide support including the last presentation will convey that the city voted and stated there was no need for a higher education, technology and arts education model/program. The most recent meeting was February of this year.
In addition, all rural towns and counties went through the COVID—19 Pandemic. The Legacy Center in West Dumas with support from the REDI program and ASC Property Management secured over $750,000 in Food Distribution support and to date, the city nor county has provided any financial support.
Not only these important agenda items but other key matters and programs are requiring the best in new leadership from across the city and county to come forth with strong vision and actions.
Also, on the table for discussion is what is the vision for philanthropic resources including $6,000,000 from the Peterson’s estate that bring a serious dimension that must be valued and weighed in on for best use and investment into the city’s future. Four years later, there has not been any public appropriations of these funds for education, economic or community advancements, outreach or engagement.
A forum is being planned for August 1 and details will be announced in the Dumas Clarion, CityPride Facebook page and on various sites and social media networks on July 20th.
Candidates and future candidates and persons needing additional information on the organizers, of the forum or persons desiring to volunteer or to participate please email allofdumasunited@gmail.com and/or leave comments at www.allofdumasunited.blogspot.com or contact www.dat-c.org
