Ross W. Martin has announced his bid to seek re-election to the Dumas City Council in Ward Three, Position Two.
He served ten years on the Council from 2010 to 2020 representing Ward Three, Position one. Martin is the son of the late Ross I. and Mary Martin and is a lifelong resident of Dumas.
He and his wife Jan have three children and five grandchildren. He is a graduate of Dumas High school and attended Arkansas A & M college where he was a member of the varsity golf team.
He served eight years with the Army National Guard with an honorable discharge as a First Lieutenant. He served as Personnel and Training Officer for the Arkansas Department of Correction, was an officer with the McGehee Police Department and retired in 2009 as a Sergeant with the Arkansas Highway Police. After retiring, he worked part time for the Desha County Sheriffs department as District Court Bailiff.
He is Past President of the Dumas Lions Club, past President of the Desha County Fair Board, and a member of the Chamber of Commerce. He is a Past Master of Omega Lodge 547 F&AM. He is a member of the Knight Commander Court of Honor with the Arkansas Scottish Rite. He is a member of Sahara Shrine Temple in Pine Bluff, where he served as Potentate in 2014. In 2017, he was voted Dumas Ding Dong Daddy of the year.
He is a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served on the finance committee, Pastor-Parish committee, The outreach Committee and President of the Men's Sunday school class. While on the Council, he served on the Advisory Committee for 1s t class cities in Arkansas. He also successfully completed 21 hours of certified Municipal Training in Municipal Finance, Municipal Personnel Management and Municipal Government Structure. He also completed an additional 12 hours of continuing education. During his tenure, he chaired the Police Committee, Fire Committee, and the Street Committee.
Martin said it was an honor to serve the city of Dumas and its people and would humbly ask for your vote in November and the privilege to do so again.
