WHEREAS, the City of Dumas, Arkansas Salutes the state’s Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission and the Arkansas Department of Human Services on partnering for a day of activities for the community and students between the ages of 11 and 18 by hosting a nonviolence summit; and
WHEREAS, the goal for this summit is to promote non-violent behavior through a day of community involvement activities designed to show the power a community can have when it comes together with positive objectives; and
WHEREAS, this event will serve as an outlet to promote Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s principles of non-violence, respect, and equality among all citizens, and
WHEREAS, The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission wants to encourage the youth of Arkansas through activities which educate, bring awareness to and address the problem of violence before it occurs in the schools and communities of Arkansas and asks youth to engage in positive leadership development roles within their communities; and
WHEREAS, the “2021 Juneteenth Nonviolence Youth Summit: Delta Financial Literacy Program” will attract youth from Southeast Arkansas. This summit will be held at the Dumas New Tech High School, 709 Dan Gill Drive, Dumas, AR 71639; and
WHEREAS, the Executive Branch of the City of Dumas would like to join in with the organizers of this summit by stating, “Community involvement is the foundation of good neighborhoods. Our youth are very important to our community and when it comes to them, we all can participate and make a difference. As we change our communities, we change our world.” The citizens of Dumas commend DuShun Scarbrough, Executive Director and the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission on their efforts to promote education, financial literacy, activities, community engagement and leadership as alternatives to violence.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Flora J. Simon, Mayor of the City of Dumas, Arkansas do hereby proclaim Saturday, June 19, 2021
“2021 JUNETEENTH NONVIOLENCE YOUTH SUMIT: DELTA FINANCIAL LITERACY DAY IN DUMAS, ARKANSAS”
and urge all the citizens of DUMAS to give special recognition to this Nonviolence Youth Summit across the city,
