The Bobcats put it on the Billies, smashing Monticello 42-20, improving to 6-3 Friday, October 30, 2020 at Monticello.
On the strength of senior Bobcat running back #3 Kylin James who rushed for 236 yards on 25 carries and threw two touchdown passes to go with senior #14 Tamarja Parker's two touchdown runs and two touchdown receptions, the Bobcats dominated the Billies on Monticello's Senior Night.
Dumas Head Football Coach George Shelton and his staff sent senior quarterback #9 Kennon Jones out for the coin toss. Jones won the toss and elected to defer which allowed the Billies to receive the opening kickoff.
Senior #20 Roman James kicked off to get the 8-4A conference game underway.
The Billies started their first possession at their own 39 yard line. Monticello picked up one first down before punting on fourth and 20 to the Dumas 24 yard line.
On first and 10, Dumas senior QB #9 Kennon Jones handed the ball to senior running back #3 Kylin James who went straight up the middle for 61 yards to the Monticello 15 yard line.
Four plays later, after a Dumas timeout at 3:47 to go in the first quarter, senior wide receiver #14 Tamarja Parker carried the ball on an end-around, for a seven yard touchdown at the 3:38 mark.
Senior kicker #20 Roman James kicked the extra point to put Dumas up 7-0.
#20 James sent the kickoff into the end zone for a touch-back.
The Billies went backwards, after a second down penalty, and eventually faced a fourth and 25 inside their own 10. Monticello attempted to punt the ball, however, senior #73 Jon Stanley Hill got a big paw up, partially blocking the punt. The ball went out of bounds at the Billies 16 yard line.
Three plays later on third and 10 from the Monticello 17, #9 Jones completed a 17 yard touchdown pass to #14 Parker with 11:55. R. James added the PAT to lift the Bobcats to a 14-0 advantage.
After the kickoff, the Billies had a first and 10 at their 36.
Monticello picked up one first down and punted on fourth and 17 to the Dumas eight yard line.
The Bobcats couldn't get anything going and set up to punt from their own end zone on fourth and 5. The center snapped the ball over #73 Jon Stanley Hill's head. Hill chased down the ball and threw a forward pass out of the end zone, which fell incomplete, turning the ball over on downs at the Dumas eight yard line.
Two plays later, Monticello scored on a short run. The Billies failed on a 2-point conversion pass leaving the score Dumas 14, Monticello 6 with 7:56 to play in the first half.
After the Monticello kickoff, the Bobcats set up with a first and 10 at the Billies 45 yard line.
K. James gained 10 yards and a first down on the next play and followed that with a nine yard gain to the Monticello 26. After K. James gained nine more yards, #10 Johntarrius Washington was tackled for a three yard loss to bring up a second and 13 at the 20 yard line.
Jones tossed the ball to K. James on a sweep, however James threw a half back pass to #11 junior wide receiver Shamarcus Heard for a 20 yard touch down with 6:09 left in the second quarter. With the PAT by R. James, Dumas extended their lead to 21-6.
R. James sent another kickoff into the Monticello end zone for a touch-back.
The Billies couldn't get anything going as a tough Bobcat defense and gave the ball back to Dumas at their 30 yard line.
On first and 10, K. James again, burned the Monticello defense on a 50 yard run to the Billies' 20 yard line.
Three plays later, T. Parker took another end around and went 16 yards for a Bobcat touchdown with 2:36 to go in the first half. R. James kicked the PAT to make the score Dumas 28, Monticello 6.
With 1:22 to play in the third quarter, Monticello completed an 11 yard touchdown pass. With the 2-point conversion, the score was Dumas 28, Monticello 14.
Two possessions later, the Billies had the ball at their own 45, facing a first and 10. Monticello attempted a pass, however, Bobcat #6 Derrick Lee intercepted the pass at mid-field and returned the pick to the Monticello 10 yard line.
On second and 11, K. James went 11 yards for a touchdown with 3:29 left in the game. R. James added the PAT to put Dumas up 35-14.
Bobcat Jon Stanley Hill disrupted everything Monticello was trying to do with back to back quarterback sacks. However, unsportsmanlike conduct penalties put the Billies in the red zone, where Monticello eventually scored on a one yard run with 2:02 to go. Bobcat D. Lee intercepted the Billies 2-point conversion attempt to leave the score Dumas 35, Monticello 20.
Heard recovered the Billies onside kickoff at the Dumas 43.
After a delay of game penalty, K. James took a sweep pitch, staying in bounds, he downed the ball to keep the clock running.
After a Monticello timeout with 1:50 to play, Bobcats QB Jones pitched the ball to K. James on what appeared to be another sweep run, however, James pulled up and threw a deep halfback pass to T. Parker who went all the way for a Dumas touchdown. With 1:39 left in the game. R. James added another PAT that set the final score at Dumas 42, Monticello 20.
