Human Remains found on Mississippi River island

On Sunday evening, May 25th, Sheriff Mitch Grant was contacted by the Arkansas Game & Fish and was told that the Mississippi Wildlife and Fisheries had a report of human remains being discovered on a remote island in the Mississippi River on the north end of Desha County near Snow Lak

Desha County Sheriff’s Report

For the month of August Deputies patrolled 30,652 miles. They answered 90 calls for service and logged 14 reports. 47 Circuit criminal and civil papers were served and we had 18 citizen assists. Deputies made 16 transports to prisons and mental health facilities.

Two arrested in ATV theft investigation

On December 18, 2023, Deputies with the Desha County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year old Hose Sierra, and 27 year old Dakota Moreland, for Theft by Receiving, stemming from an investigation of a stolen ATV from Lincoln County, that was sold to a person in Desha County. Our Criminal Investigation division obtained arrest warrants for the pair.
