CLEVELAND (AP) — Former NFL defensive end Chris Smith, who was touched by tragedy while he played for the Cleveland Browns, has died. He was 31.

Smith's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and the Browns confirmed his passing on Tuesday. The cause of death was not immediately known.

Browns' Odom, USFL star, suffers season-ending knee injury

CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland Browns defensive end Chris Odom, the USFL's Defensive Player of the Year signed during training camp, suffered a season-ending knee injury in Saturday night's exhibition loss to the Chicago Bears.

Coach Kevin Stefanski said the 27-year-old Odom tore his left anterior cruciate ligament in the fourth quarter.

Twins cope with midseason move, pitching coach going to LSU

CLEVELAND (AP) — Wes Johnson knows the timing isn't ideal for the Minnesota Twins. It's not easy for him, either, or without some personal pain.

Johnson is leaving the Twins to return to his college coaching roots, taking over LSU's program. He said the decision took an emotional toll on him.
