The Dumas Warming Center is open at the Community Center for people in need of a warm place or shelter during this winter storm.
The entrance is located at the side double doors. They have cots, pillows, blankets, soup, snacks, coffee and hot chocolate to keep people warm and safe from the cold. They are currently open 8 am to until during storm conditions for anyone needing warmth, food and shelter. They are currently open for the weekend, but will extend the center's operation depending on weather conditions. If anyone know someone needing assistance, please contact the Dumas Police Department at the Central Dispatch at 870-382-3331.
The DPD began preparing Monday for the upcoming cold weather. The community has provided help by donating blankets, bedding, food, water, hygiene items, money and socks. As of Friday, they had a few visitors, but will be prepared for more if they need a warm place to stay.
“Everything is going good. Right, now we don't have many people, but we are prepared for more. We have alternative plans if things start getting worse,” Police Chief Keith Finch said.
