Theft $5,000 or Less but Greater than $1,000 – From Building
Dumas Police Department Sgt. Crystal Martin was dispatched to Tobacco Store Sunday, May 8, 2022 at approximately 3:21 pm, in reference to a Theft.
Sgt. Martin made contact with the District Manager who state Saturday's (May 7, 2022) deposit money that was in the safe was missing.
The District Manager reported the exact amount that was missing.
Reportedly, there were two cashiers on duty Saturday. The first cashier's shift ended at 3 pm, and the second cashier closed the store at 10 pm.
The District Manager stated the computer system showed the first cashier made deposits but did not open the safe to remove any money.
The District Manager called the alarm company and they told her the alarm was deactivated at 10:09 pm. She also stated the second cashier called out for work earlier in the morning on 5-8-2022, which is why she was working the shift at this time of the report.
The District Manager stated that throughout her shift she was doing paperwork to prepare the deposit when she noticed the money was missing. She believed the evening cashier took the money.
Sgt. Martin advised the District Manager a report will be on file and the case would be turned over to CID.
At 3:30 pm, the District Manager called back stating the cashier returned to the store with the deposit money. The cashier told the District Manager she was really really sorry then left the store. The money was counted to ensure the full amount was there. The count showed that a considerable amount of money was missing from the deposit. Sgt. Martin advised her the cash would be turned over to CID.
At 3:45 pm, the District Manager called back to report all the money was accounted for. She stated the cashier did return all the money back to the store.
DWI – Drugs (Unlawful Act)
Dumas Police Department Investigator Eric Armstrong was dispatched to Exxon Thursday, May 12, 2022 at approximately 12:02 pm, in reference to multiple calls on a truck driving recklessly.
Officer Libbett had already made contact with the driver upon Inv. Armstrong's arrival.
The driver had a very hard time keeping his balance. Armstrong asked him if he had anything to drink and he stated he had not. Armstrong then ask him if he had taken any medication. He stated that he did and pulled multiple medication bottles out of a bag. The driver stated he took most of the pills inside the bag.
The bag contained hydrocodone, and other medication that advised not to drive after taking. The driver stated he was driving before Officer Libbett made contact with him at Exxon. He also stated that he did take the medication before driving earlier that day. Armstrong asked the driver if he would take a field sobriety and he stated he could not.
Armstrong then placed the driver under arrest for DWI and place him in the car while he searched the vehicle. Another bag of medication was found inside the vehicle along with multiple medication bottles around the inside of the vehicle. In the back seat of the vehicle, was a opened 30 pack of beer.
The driver was transported to Dumas PD for more testing. After reading the driver his rights he refused to take any test.
He was booked for DWI and Refusal of Chemical Testing.
INFORMATION REPORT
Dumas police patrolmen Raydon Findley and Carl McCree made contact with a runaway female juvenile Saturday, May 14, 2022 at approximately 11:47 pm, who was missing from Fort Worth, Texas.
After finding her the patrolmen contacted her mother to inform her she must come pick the juvenile up from the station in person.
After several attempts her mother was unable to secure a ride to come get her daughter. Dumas PD contacted DHS, who informed the officers thee was nothing they could do at this time. The mother informed Officer Findley that her cousin would be willing to drive from Texas to come get her.
Officer Findley called the mother and spoke with her and she agreed to let the cousin come get her.
A verbal agreement was made on Officer Findley's body cam and the mother is also going to write out a written statement that will state that the cousin has permission. It will be signed and dated by both parties and the cousin will have it upon arrival.
