FURNISHING PROHIBITED ARTICLES
Dumas Police Chief Keith Finch observed numerous cigarette butts fall from the person of 34-year-old Derrick Nixon after he returned from court in Arkansas City Monday, August 1, 2022 at approximately 11:31 am.
Nixon attempted to cause a distraction by causing a commotion over not being allowed to use the downstairs phone.
Nixon attempted to walk to the elevator, however, Chief Finch called him back and had him to have a seat on the intake bench. Chief Finch asked Nixon if he had anymore tobacco products or anything else he was not allowed to have on his person. Nixon showed Chief Finch rolled up court documents which he had several more cigarette butts.
Chief Finch then had Nixon place his hands on the wall so he could perform a pat down of his person.
A more than one stash of cigarette butts on Nixon's person. Chief Finch also noticed Nixon attempting to conceal an item within his hand. Finch had Nixon give him what he was attempting to conceal, which turned out to be US Currency.
Chief Finch took possession of the money and counted it after asking Nixon how much it was, so it could be logged
Nixon was advised he would be charged Furnishing / Possession of Prohibited Articles.
FRAUD – FALSE OR FRAUDULENT MATERIAL ON APPLICATIONS, RECORDS
Dumas Police Department CID Eric Armstrong was dispatched to the PD Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at approximately 3:28 pm, in reference of a report.
CID Armstrong spoke with Catherine Sandifer, who stated that her mother, Mrs. Alicia Moore, gave Priscilla Copeland Neeley a check for future payments.
Sandifer stated that the check was not signed by her mother and was signed and cashed by Neeley.
Sandifer provided copies of checks that Mrs. Moore has signed and also of the check that she advised was not signed by Mrs. Moore.
CID Armstrong advised Sandifer that a report would be on file.
THEFT GREATER THAN $5,000 BUT LESS THAN $25,000 – ALL OTHERS
On August 10, 2022, at approximately 4:26 pm, Hill Seed advised the Dumas Police Department that they had a theft.
Dumas Police Department Lt. Jamie Donaldson spoke with Wade Hill, whom advised that he had a 2018 Polaris Ranger EV camo in color and a red .22 Mag. Browning Buckmark stolen. He also advised that there were several items in the back of the Polaris that were also taken.
Video show that two black males taking the items on the night of August, 8, 2022 at approximately 11:40 pm.
August 11, 2022, at approximately 2:30 pm, the Polaris Ranger was recovered behind a residence on Palmetto St. The gun had been entered into ACIC.
This incident has been turned over to CID.
DWI; POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA; POSSESSION OF METH OR COCAINE LT 2GM
Dumas Police Patrolman Raydon Findley made a traffic stop on Highway 65 North, Friday, August 12, 2022, at approximately 10:15 pm, of an unlicensed red BMW bug.
Upon Officer Findley's approach, he saw that the driver, Mr. Alejandro Negrete, 37 of Alexander, AR, did not speak English very well. At this point, Officer Findley asked Inv. Alan Hernandez to translate for him.
Mr. Negrete appeared to have had been drinking. Officer Findley conducted field sobriety on him.
During this time, Sgt. Greg Freeman and patrolman Kristy Freeman searched the subjects vehicle.
During the search, patrolman Freeman discovered a container that contained a rock of crystal like substance. A clear glass pipe with a burnt end and a half drank bottle of brandy was also discovered during the search.
CID Hernandez placed Negrete under arrest. He was transported by Officer Findley to the Dumas City Jail. Negrete was advised of his statement of rights and agreed to a BAC; he blew a .015.
TERRORISTIC THREATENING; FLEEING
Dumas Police Department SRO Kristy Freeman and Sgt. Crystal Martin were dispatched to a location on Oak Street Saturday August 13, 2022, in reference of a many trying to get into a residence.
Once on scene, Sgt. Martin spoke with the callers relative who stated that Gayland Reed, 35 of Pine Bluff, AR started banging and kicking on her door trying, while yelling threats, to get in.
Officer confirmed that Mr. Reed has a Felony Warrant out of Desha County.
The Officers listened to Mr. Reed's side of the story. They then informed him that he had to go with them due to the Warrant. Sgt. Martin grabbed Mr. Reed to place him in handcuffs. Mr. Reed stated he did not have a Warrant and he took off running on foot. Officers Martin and Freeman began a foot chase after Reed through the Housing Authority.
Sgt. Martin yelled at Mr. Reed to stop running but he continued. Mr. Reed ran through the houses onto Pine St where Officer Wayn'a Green and CID Alan Hernandez saw and yelled at him to stop.
Mr. Reed continued to run towards Ash St. CID Hernandez was still behind Mr. Reed who gave up on South Ash Street.
CID Hernandez and Officer Green took Mr. Reed in custody where he was transported to Dumas jail.
Desha County was contacted and was on their way to pick up Mr. Reed.
As Officer Freeman and Sgt. Martin were waiting for Desha County Officers to arrive at the Dumas Jail Intake, Mr. Reed began yelling and cussing at the officer, supposedly recording the officers with his phone and threatening them.
Mr. Reed was charged with Fleeing on Foot and Terroristic Threatening. Mr. Reed is also being held on his Warrant from Desha County and the State of Texas.
Desha County Officer arrived at the Dumas PD intake and transported Mr. Reed to the McGehee jail
SHOPLIFTING $1,000 OR LESS
Dumas Police Department Sgt. Crystal Martin was dispatched to Mad Butcher Saturday, August 13, 2022 at approximately 2:15 pm, in reference of Shoplifting.
Sgt. Martin made contact with the manager, Danny Bennett. Mr. Bennett stated a slender back male wearing a face mask, white shirt, tan pants and a red hat come into the store and spoke with the meat department manager.
The male, later identified as Jimmy Hampton, finished talking with the meat manger who walked away. Once the manager walked away, Mr. Hampton, who was seen on video, picked up packages of Porterhouse Steaks and walked down an aisle. As he was walking down the aisle, Mr. Hampton tucked the packages down his pants and walked out of the store.
Mr. Bennett stated there were six packages that was taken, which cost $25.00 dollars a piece.
Sgt. Martin advised Mr. Bennett a report will be on file and how to obtain an affidavit.
POSSESSION OF SCH I OR II GT 2GM BUT LT 10GM
Dumas Police Department CID Eric Armstrong saw a silver truck with expired tags driving on Highway 65 Monday, August 15, 2022 at approximately 11:30 pm.
CID Armstrong made a a traffic stop on Main St and the Lions Club ball park.
After running both parties Ids, the passenger, Kimberlee Cox, 33 of Dumas, had a Warrant out of Dumas. Armstrong removed both parties from the vehicle and advised Cox that she had a Warrant.
Armstrong asked the driver, Heath Lenderman, 30 of Dumas, if there was anything illegal in the vehicle? He stated there should not be.
As Armstrong was removing Lenderman from the vehicle, he saw him get a Longhorn tobacco can out of the console. After patting him down Armstrong got the tobacco can from him and asked him if there was anything in it? Lenderman advised he didn't know what was in the can.
Armstrong opened the can and there was a clear baggy with a white substance in it. Lenderman was placed under arrest at that time.
Both subjects were transported to Dumas City Jail. While at the jail, Cox stated that the Meth we found was hers and not Lendermans. Lenderman provided a statement that the Meth we found was Cox's.
Lenderman was released from custody and Cox was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance Sch I.
