FORGERY
Dumas Police Officers were dispatched to Big Banjo in reference of someone trying to use a stolen check Monday, October 10, 2022.
Dumas Police Sgt. Crystal Martin made contact with a Big Banjo cashier who stated two females in silver SUV type vehicle pulled up to the window to get an order.
The cashier stated the driver gave him a check to pay for the item. As the cashier was checking them out at the register, the cashier noticed the name on the check and realized the check was reported stolen earlier in the week.
As the cashier was calling the police, the vehicle drove off heading north on Highway 65.
Dumas PD SRO Kristy Freeman arrived on scene as backup. The officers asked if they can review the camera. Both Sgt. Martin and SRO. Freeman reviews the camera and observed two people walking toward the back of Big Banjo. They were observed walking up to the back door. One wearing a white hoodie and the other was wearing a lime green hoodie.
Upon reviewing another area business camera, Officer Kristy Freeman called CID Alan Hernandez and Sgt. Martin to that store.
They saw the people who were wearing the particular hoodies. They were identified as Heather Sledge and Jason Manes. They were talking to Victoria Jones, who was reportedly driving the same vehicle that drove up to Big Banjo drive thru window.
THEFT $1,000 OR LESS – ALL OTHERS
Dumas Police Department CID Eric Armstrong was dispatched to O'Reilly's Auto Parts for a report Monday, October 10, 2022.
Armstrong spoke with store manager Tamara Irons who stated a guy came in at 7:06 pm on 7/30/2022 and charged $84.64 to the Doyle and Brad Sims Farm account.
The same guy charged $9.99 to the same account on 7?19/2022. Irons also stated there was a charge to the same farm account on an unknown date for $204.89. She advised that she did not have a receipt for that charge at the time of the report.
Armstrong advised Irons that a report would be on file.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
Dumas Police Department CID Eric Armstrong was dispatched to a local residence to a door being damaged Monday, October 10, 2022.
Armstrong spoke with Jean Israel. She stated during the night of October 9, 2022, she heard someone kicking her front storm door.
The front storm door was damaged and also had a foot print on the front door that was damaged.
Armstrong advised her that a report would be on file.
ASSAULT
Dumas Police Department CID Alan Hernandez was dispatched to Delta Memorial Hospital Monday, October 10, 2022 at approximately 9:06 pm in reference of a male running around the parking lot naked.
Upon arrival, Hernandez made contact with the ER Nurse. She advised that the subject 45-year-old Johnnie Reed of Dumas arrived at the ER by ambulance. She stated that EMS personnel advised her that Reed was under the influence of drugs.
Hernandez then made contact with Reed, who was laying on the ground naked. He was provided with a sheet to cover his self.
The ER Nurse stated that Reed ran out of the ER and did not want medical treatment. Reed was escorted back to the ER so he could get dressed. Once dressed, Dumas Police Sgt. Greg Freeman arrived and place Reed in the back of Officer Raydon Findley's car.
Reed's mother was called and she advised she would be on her way to pick him up. Once she arrived she advised the officers that Reed has a bad drug problem and needed to seek help.
Reed was escorted back and he advised officers of seeing people and advised he had suicidal thoughts.
Sgt. Freeman gave Reed the opportunity to talk to a crisis therapist via face time. Sgt. Freeman was able to get a hold of Ms. Marian Green who spoke with Reed, but Reed did not want to cooperate.
Green then spoke with Reed's mother.
Meanwhile, Reed began to act strange and Hernandez tried to calm him down. Reed ran on foot towards the front of the hospital. Hernandez then grabbed Reed's hand. Reed tried to run and started swinging at Hernandez.
Reed ran a short distance and was placed under arrest. He was transported to JRMC for mental health treatment but was denied. He was transported to Dumas City Jail where he was booked on the charges of fleeing an officer on foot and assaulting an officer.
POSSESSING MARIJUANA
Dumas Police Department Sgt. Greg Freeman was on patrol on Highway 165 Sunday, October 9, 2022, when he conducted a traffic stop on a white Honda Accord for a headlight being out. When Sgt. Freeman made contact with the driver, he could smell the odor of Marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
Freeman observed that the driver appeared to be nervous. There was a juvenile passenger in the vehicle. The driver was asked if there were any guns, drugs, or alcohol in the vehicle. The driver responded by stating “no”. The driver gave Freeman consent to search his vehicle.
During the search, a clear glass jar containing a green leafy substance appearing to be Marijuana was found under the passenger seat.
Both occupants of the vehicle, one 18-years of age and the other 17-years-old, were placed under arrest and transported to the Dumas Jail.
The driver (18) was charged with Possession of Marijuana and released to the parent.
The vehicle was towed to Whaley's Tow Yard.
All evidence was entered into the evidence locker for further processing.
THEFT OF VEHICLE VALUED AT LESS THAN $25,000 BUT MORE THAN $5,000
Dumas Police Department CID Eric Armstrong was dispatched to the PD in reference to a stolen car Thursday, October 6, 2022.
Upon arrival, Armstrong spoke with James Synder who advised that he let his daughter use his 2012 Silver Toyota Camry only to drive to her house and park the vehicle until he could later retrieve it on a later date.
Mr. Snyder also advised that while his daughter had the car, 29-year-old Damitri Dantzler of Dumas got the car and drove it to Texas with no contact to her or him. Snyder also advised that he received multiple toll bills from Texas he had to pay. Snyder stated he did not let Dantzler use the car and would never let him use his car.
Armstrong advised James Snyder that a report would be made and would be entered into ACIC as stolen.
THEFT OF A VEHICLE VALUED AT $5,000 OR LESS BUT GREATER THAN $1,000
Dumas Police Department Sgt. Greg Freeman was dispatched to a location on South Beach in reference to a stolen ATV Thursday, October 6, 2022.
Sgt. Freeman spoke with Wayne Simmons Jr., who advised he let his dog out at approximately 4:45 am an this date and found that his ATV was missing. Simmons stated that he had last seen the ATV on October 5, 2022 at approximately 3:00 pm parked on the north side of his residence.
The ATV is described as a 2020 Red Honda Foreman with red snorkel and a black sticker with letters MF on the left rear fender.
Simmons was advised that the ATV will be entered into ACIC as stolen and a report will be on file at the Dumas Police Department.
POSSESSING MARIJUANA
Dumas Police Department Patrolman Wayna Green observed a driver within a vehicle, operating the vehicle with not seat belt Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at approximately 4:51 pm.
Green initiated a traffic stop at Mad Butcher in the parking lot on the vehicle.
As Green approached the vehicle he could smell a strong odor of Marijuana. The passenger, 25-year-old- Breshuan Neal, immediately handed Patrolman Green a baggie of green leafy substance containing what is believed to be marijuana.
A vehicle search was conducted and nothing further was found. Mr. Neal was issued a citation for possession of marijuana.
FORGERY
Complainant Kenneth Gilley Jr. came into the Dumas Police Department to make a report of stolen checks Wednesday, October 5, 2022.
Mr. Gilley stated Jason Manes, 41 of Dumas, went into his mailbox and stole his checks. He stated Mr. Manes had to get them sometime between 9/27/2022 and 9/29/2022. Mr. Gilley stated Mr. Manes used the checks to make purchases at Big Banjo. The first purchase was on 9/30/2022 in the amount of $40.66. The second purchase was on 10/1/2022 in the amount of $74.19. The third purchase was on 10/2/2022 in the amount of $79.05.
Mr. Gilley also went to Merchants and Farmers Bank. The bank told him that they remember a check with his name on it that Daniel Williams had in his possession trying to cash it. Mr. Williams was unable to cash the check.
Dumas Police Department Sgt. Crystal Martin advised Mr. Gilley a report will be on file and the case will be turned over to CID.
Approximately 15 minutes later, Mr. Gilley stated that Daniel Williams was at Family Dollar Store trying to cash one of his checks.
CID Eric Armstrong went to talk to Mr. Gilley, while Sgt Martin attempted to locate Mr. Williams. Sgt. Martin went to Mr. Williams house where he refused to answer the door or acknowledge Martin. Sgt. Martin was unable to make contact with him.
DOMESTIC BATTERING – 3RD DEGREE/PURPOSE OF CAUSING INJURY, CAUSING INJURY
Dumas Police Department CID Alan Hernandez was dispatched to a location on Melrose St. in reference of an unwanted guest at approximately 8:51 pm Tuesday, October 4, 2022.
Hernandez spoke with Quiyesha Johnson who advised that her mother, Denise Plummer, was on the phone and wanted to speak with the officer.
Hernandez spoke with Ms. Denise Plummer who stated she did not want Lamar Hemphill on her property. Hernandez asked Johnson if Hemphill was there and she stated yes. She stated that he was standing by the porch.
Hernandez approached a group of male subjects who advised that Hemphill had left.
CID Hernandez then checked back in service.
Johnson then left the house and followed Hernandez to the Dumas Police Department, where she advised Hernandez that Hemphill had assaulted her.
According to Johnson, her and Hemphill are a couple and have one child together. Both parties got in an argument that turned physical. Johnson stated that Hemphill punched her several times in the face. Johnson had a busted lip.
Hernandez advised Johnson on how to obtain an order of protection. She was screened and provided with a Laura's Card.
Hernandez advised Johnson how to obtain an affidavit in case officers were unable to arrest Hemphill on a 12 hour warrant less arrest.
