Our candle light program held December 11, by teleconference was different, but never our love and memory for the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and grandchildren who left too soon. Although we were not present in person, we felt the love of all who joined us.
Angela Elliott from Hampton served as the registrar. She recorded attendees from 26 households in Arkansas,Illinois, and Georgia. The program started at 6:30 p.m. with Brenda Norman serving as the host. Ms. Pamela Lewis of Little Rock encouraged and inspired everyone with the song “His eye is on the Sparrow”. The invocation was given by Rev. Tyrone Ford. The Compassionate Friends Responsive Reading was read by Rev. Arthur Bealer and Mrs. Future Bealer. The welcome was extended by Ms. Shanta Smith. Mrs. Willie Washington let everyone know that God is the source of our strength through the song “Without God”.
The Five Gifts of Remembrance Ceremony was presented by Mrs. Phyllis Racy who ann-ounced each speaker while Brenda Norman lighted the candle for each gift. Mrs. Barbara Meadow emphasized that the Gift of Courage keeps us going when we feel we cannot make another step. Mrs. Francis Lane encouraged the Gift of Hope as a desire with the outlook of expectation. Mrs. Ida Block stimulated the Gift of Memories as healing in sharing our children’s memories with others.” Relonda Batts of Monticello welcomed the Gift of Friendship as having someone who truly care and is there to give you a special lift. Mrs. Joyce Smith embraced the Gift of Love as remembering our loved ones and replacing sorrow with joy.
The 7 p.m. Candle Light Ceremony was conducted by Miss Ora Guy. During the Candle lighting Ceremony everyone lighted their candle in memory of their loved one(s). Mrs. Telicia Harrell of Monticello read the poem, “Lights of Love”. Mrs. Laurell Hall of Pine Bluff encouraged the group with the solo “Yes.”
Afterwards everyone were asked to blow out their candles.
Mrs. Hattie Watts drew numbers for the door prizes. Brenda Norman thanked everyone for their participation and support. Participants were invited to send pictures for the newsletter and paper. Ms. Genesis Jackson of Monticello encouraged us all to give God the Glory for all that he has done through the song “For your Glory”.
The program closed with a prayer by Rev. Donnie Jackson.
