How Could This Be? Homecoming 2022 and Now… A Homegoing? Plans for Homecoming, Reunion and Convention 2022 for Dumas have been moving forward with persons planning to Come Home to Dumas March 18—20, to reunite and rebuild in the city of Dumas.
On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, Marilynn Y. Hunt, the second child of the later Dr. and Mrs. A.L. Hunt, Sr., transitioned from earth to glory. Marilynn, a 1974, graduate of Dumas High School was loved and admired by many. It was also the birthday of Lawana Hunt- Walker who would have been 63 had she lived.
The hopes for people to move swiftly to see the value of coming home to enjoy great fellowship, networking and planning for future generations has been strong. And the plans remain. But now, another reason and strong magnet for people to come home to Dumas to convene for the homecoming is the passing of one of the members of the community and most dearly, a member of the Hunt Family.
“We are deeply saddened by our sister’s departure. She was a lover of life and people. She was excited about coming home for the Homecoming and will be here, (but) in a different way. She was a pioneer builder of the West Dumas Church of God in Christ (now Hunt Memorial Cathedral of Faith). On the opening day for Homecoming 2022, March 18, we will honor her life, “Remembering Marilynn Y. Hunt.”
It will be a service that signifies the significant role she played in Dumas. We will celebrate a great life and the loss of a dear sister. And it will be a reminder for everyone to see the value of life and how we must not take a day for granted. We must not allow death to be what brings us home together. I believe God is saying to us in multiple relations; family, community and especially in the household of faith… people, get back to love, learn to live together in peace, learn to treat people right and come together in unity. Life is precious so live it accordingly,” stated Rev. Arthur L. Hunt, Jr., Senior Pastor, HMC, Hunt Memorial Cathedral of Faith.
On this same evening, other pioneer and legacy family members from Dumas and especially the West Dumas community will be remembered in a candlelight vigil and Roll Call. Persons will come up (as many as desire), bring a photo or memorabilia of a family member and call out their name. The mission is to honor loved ones and to make sure that every life and legacy has dignity as past, present and future generations see the value and commitment from those who hail from Dumas.
The location of the services will be announced next week here in the Clarion.
Homecoming 2022 continues on the following day and has exciting events for the entire community. On Saturday, March 19th the Homecoming Family Festival Day features all day music, food, vendors and a special concert performance by Dumas’ very on… The Racy Brothers in their first hometown concert in over two years. They will be performing from their new CD, “We Survived.” Other groups are being added.
The festival will be held at THE LEGACY CENTER at 501 W. Bowles from 12noon—6pm.
Sunday will be a day of vision casting, great preaching and worship. All details and updates can be found at www.dat-c.org on the Special Events page. To get involved call 870.623.8179 or email allofdumasunited@gmail.com
