The Dumas Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their A Silver Screen Christmas Parade Monday, December 5, 2022 starting at 6 pm.
Vehicles and float line-up will begin at 5:00 pm at the old hospital parking lot. Vehicles will enter on Pickens Street from Court Street. There will be no entry from College Street. Walking entries will line-up in front
of Gill Gym (DJHS) on the grassy area and will be directed into the parade route. ATV's, SxS's, antique cars, etc.
will have to offload of trailers at another location and enter the parking lot from Court Street. An offload location will be given to groups upon confirmation of registration. The parade will proceed from the hospital parking lot onto College toward Central Elementary, turn onto Waterman Street and proceed to Main Street. Turning right at Main Street, the parade will turn right again at Choctaw Street and disband at the corner of College and Choctaw (at Central Elementary).
Participants can sign up for the parade at https://tiny.one/DumasChristmas, scan the Qr Code or complete a form and turn in at the Dumas Chamber of Commerce Office, 165 South Main Street Organization.
The overall grand prize for the parade is $500 with $100 first place awards for divisions for floats, vehicles, ATVs/SXS, walking and others.
A Christmas Tree Lighting will be held at the Delta Memorial Hospital following the parade. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be attending with refreshments of cookies and hot chocolate.
Dumas Christmas Parade Entry Rules are that all participants must promote the parade theme of "A Silver Screen Christmas", depicting a favorite Christmas movie or TV program. All aspects of all entries, must be decorated in
the theme of the parade and should be designed for viewing from all sides. All people and animals riding/walking with
your entry should be dressed in Christmas/holiday costumes to have the best impact. Music is encouraged but must be Christmas themed for the entire parade route. The music must be kept at a level that does not interfere with other entries on either side of you and be prepared to adjust the volume if requested. The Committee will provide the official Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus.
Parade entries with children need to set a drop-off location other than the hospital parking lot as vehicles will not be allowed to enter area to drop off riders. Entries are encouraged to display the name of the organization and/or business etc. being sponsored. Only vehicles in the parade are allowed in the line up area.
The Dumas Christmas Parade is a family-friendly event for all ages, and every entry in the parade is expected to respect this. All costumes, outfits, behavior, attitude, language, music, and dance moves must be appropriate for all audiences and will be held to a high standard. Participants are not allowed to throw any items from floats or vehicles. This includes but is not limited to candy, beads, toys, and pamphlets. Participants walking along the side of a float or vehicle can pass these items out.
For judging purposes, participants are asked to make the name visible on the right hand side of the entry to be judged. If the name is not visible the entry will not be judged. Judging will be based on precision (for performing units), appearance, originality, attention to detail, and incorporation of the parade theme. The judging stand will be located on Waterman in front of the Dumas Police Department. The judges points will be tallied at the end of the parade. The winners will be announced at the Dumas Chamber of Commerce meeting December 6, 2022 at 12 pm. If the event is rained out, the winners will be announced and live streamed on the Chambers Facebook page December 7.
